Our coffee and conversations are in the Broadway Armory dining room and start at 9 a.m. Meet up with us there for lively exploration of each week’s topics.
Join hosts John Williams and Tom Murphy as the group explores interesting and sometimes controversial topics. Each week’s discussion is typically accompanied by some readings you’ll receive in advance via email. Topics for the subsequent week are decided at the previous discussion. This week’s topics are:
1. To Tip or Not To Tip? During COVID, higher amounts for tips and service charges in lieu of, or in addition to tips became the norm. Let’s discuss the pros and cons of service charges, and the aggressive solicitation of tips for otherwise normal transactions.
2. Another Civil War? A poll taken last summer indicated half of those surveyed thought that there was a 50% chance of a civil war breaking out in the US in the next few years. What form could a civil war take? Might some states legally secede and form a new country? Might there be an armed insurrection? What could be the implications and consequences of such actions?
If you are interested in participating in our discussions but are not on our distribution list, send an email to tjm2040@rcn.com and we will add you to the list.
