Our coffee and conversations are in the Broadway Armory dining room and start at 9 a.m. Meet up with us there for lively exploration of each week’s topics. Today’s topics are:
Why have local elections (state, county and municipal) migrated over the years from a preeminent focus on local issues to one on national issues? What are the advantages and disadvantages to local jurisdictions of this evolution? What can/should be done to mitigate the downsides.
Are “progressive cities” (e.g., San Francisco, Los Angeles, DC) becoming less desirable places to live as a result of espousal of “compassionate” policies on homelessness, immigration and policing, etc., or are there other reasons? What can be done to change the direction and to mitigate the downside?
Join hosts John Williams and Tom Murphy as the group explores interesting and sometimes controversial topics. Each week’s discussion is typically accompanied by some readings you’ll receive in advance via email. Topics for the subsequent week are decided at the previous discussion.
If you are interested in participating in our discussions but are not on our distribution list, send an email to tjm2040@rcn.com and we will add you to the list.
