Our coffee and conversations are in the Broadway Armory dining room and start at 9 a.m. Meet up with us there for lively exploration of each week’s topics.
Moderators will facilitate the discussion as the group explores interesting and sometimes controversial topics. Each week’s discussion is typically accompanied by some readings you’ll receive in advance via email. Topics for the subsequent week are decided at the previous discussion. This week's topics are:
Topic 1 - Campus Protests in 2024: How different are today’s protests from campus protests in Vietnam War era (i) as to the extent of “free speech”, (ii) as to the voice of the University in public debate, (iii) as to parameters of police involvement?
BONUS: Does history repeat: Was any C&C participant involved in student takeover of campus buildings at Columbia in ‘68?
Topic 2 - Corporate Takeovers of Hospitals/Medical Practices:: Why has private equity begun acquiring hospitals/medical practices? What difference does “for profit” motive make in medicine? Does the Hippocratic ideal suffer as a result?
If you are interested in participating in our discussions but are not on our distribution list, send an email to John Williams and we will add you to the list.
