Edgewater Memory Cafe

  • Edgewater Branch Library 6000 North Broadway Chicago, IL, 60660 United States (map)

Our monthly Memory Café offers a comfortable and supportive environment for individuals with memory loss and their caregivers. Activities at this event will vary at each meeting but will include games, arts and crafts, music, and more. Friends, family members, and community allies also are welcome!

We’ll meet on the last Friday of every month. The first hour is reserved for the formal program; the second hour is set aside for socialization. Light refreshments will be served but feel free to bring a bagged lunch. There will also be a raffle for a special door prize!

This month's Cafe will feature musician Caleigh Vanecek, as we uncover how percussion is all around us! Our focus will be on creating diverse sound qualities using different parts of our instruments as well as our hands and feet. We'll be playing with volume, rests, and some simple notes to add variety. We will utilize these sounds in some essential drumming patterns and explore how those rhythms are used to evoke different emotions by pairing them with a short story. Last, we'll experiment with drum fills and play along with classic hits in different tempos.

Caleigh has a true passion for the drums.  As she puts it, " percussion allowed me to embrace being playful without any inhibitions, and understand how to tap into my own creativity."  So come tap into your creativity at this event!

Held the last Friday of each month, in partnership with the Edgewater Branch Library, Renewal Memory Partners, Weiss Hospital, Chicago Methodist Senior Services and Flourish Research.
