Mollie's War: a WAC in WWII

Please come and enjoy a special Veteran's Day program as author Cyndee Schaffer talks about the history of Veteran's Day and discusses women in the military during WWII. She highlights her mother’s experiences as a member of the Women’s Army Corps. Using excerpts from Mollie’s letters written home, Cyndee provides a romantic yet frightful glimpse into the life of a woman in uniform during this crucial time in history. She traces the footsteps of her mother and her fellow WACs who followed the soldiers stationed in Europe from London to Normandy to Paris to Versailles and finally to Frankfurt. Cyndee worked with her mother to publish “Mollie’s War” based on her mother’s letters home and her recollections.

Cyndee Schaffer is the co-author of the award winning “Mollie’s War,” President of MWA (Midwest Writers Association) and 2015 to 2020 Road Scholar from Illinois Humanities.

Co-sponsored by the Friends of the Edgewater Library and the Edgewater Branch of the Chicago Public Library
