Edgewater Village Chicago is starting a series of meetings to chat about movies. Participants will view the film on their own and then participate in a Zoom meeting for the discussion. We anticipate monthly Saturday night events. Participants will choose the next film for viewing and discussion.
The first film to be discussed is “Shawshank Redemption” a 1994 movie directed by Frank Darabont and starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman that is based on a 1982 Stephen King novella.
It chronicles the experiences of a formerly successful banker as a prisoner in the gloomy jailhouse of Shawshank after being found guilty of a crime he did not commit. The film portrays the man's unique way of dealing with his new, torturous life; along the way he befriends a number of fellow prisoners, most notably a wise long-term inmate named Red. The two imprisoned men bond over a number of years, finding solace and eventual redemption through acts of common decency.
