Edgewater Village Chicago is holding a series of gatherings to chat about movies. Participants will view each film on their own and then join a group discussion via Zoom. Movies are selected through discussion and a decision of Chat participants. Join the Movie Chat and bring your recommendations! This week’s movies are The Big Red One (1980/2004) and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945).
The Big Red One rated 7.1/10 Sam Fuller's autobiographical account of his WWII tour of duty follows a tough sergeant and his "four horsemen" in action from North Africa to Sicily to Normandy to the liberation of a Czech concentration camp. Spoiler alert: the Allies win!

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn rated 8.0/10 Elia Kazan's directorial debut is about growing up poor yet hopeful in Brooklyn in the early 20th century. The film, both sad and yet also heartwarming, captures a time gone by with Oscar winning performances by James Dunn and Peggy Ann Garner. All this and "Annie Laurie" too.
