Movie Chat Series

Edgewater Village Chicago is holding a series of gatherings to chat about movies. Participants will view each film on their own and then join a group discussion via Zoom.

The films for March 13 are Belle (2013) and Leap Year (2010).

Belle: This movie was inspired by the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the illegitimate mixed-race daughter of Royal Navy Captain Sir John Lindsay. Raised by her great-uncle Lord William Murray, 1st Earl of Mansfield and his wife, Belle's lineage affords her certain privileges, yet the color of her skin prevents her from fully participating in the traditions of her social standing. Belle falls for an idealistic young vicar's son bent on change, who, with her help, shapes Lord Mansfield's role as Lord Chief Justice to end slavery in England.

Leap Year: When yet another anniversary passes without a marriage proposal from her boyfriend, Anna Brady decides to take action.  She plans to travel to Dublin to propose to her boyfriend Jeremy on February 29, leap day, because– according to Irish tradition, a man who receives a marriage proposal on a leap day must accept it.  She faces a major setback when bad weather threatens to derail her planned trip to Dublin. Fate has other plans.

Copies of these movies are available on DVD at the Edgewater Branch library for checkout with your library card or you can watch them online through a streaming service of your choice.

Registration is required. You will receive an email with the link to join the online Zoom discussion group.

This program is co-sponsored by the Edgewater Public Library.
