Coffee & Conversation

  • Broadway Armory 5917 North Broadway Chicago, IL, 60660 United States (map)

Our coffee and conversations are in the Broadway Armory dining room and start at 9 a.m. Meet up with us there for lively exploration of each week’s topics.

Moderators will facilitate the discussion as the group explores interesting and sometimes controversial topics. Each week’s discussion is typically accompanied by some readings you’ll receive in advance via email.

1st Topic:

Elon Musk and other “oligarchs” in US politics today: What might Musk’s role as “first buddy” to Trump possibly mean for us over next four years? More generally, what might it mean for us that there’s a class of self-made billionaires with firm ideas of public policy, who are willing to spend money to realize such ideas (e.g., Musk, Gates, Bloomberg or Soros)?

2nd Topic:

ICE Raids on Places of Employment, Schools, Hospitals and other public settings: 1) Rights of an employer or public institution to safeguard its employees? 2) Rights of undocumented in event of such ICE enforcement raid? 3) Preparatory steps to forestall ICE raids or mitigate the effects?

If you are interested in participating in our discussions but are not on our distribution list, send an email to John Williams and we will add you to the list.
