Join hosts John Williams and Rich Norman at Rewired Café and enjoy locally roasted coffee and delicious breakfast items. Each week’s discussion is typically accompanied by some readings you’ll receive in advance via email. Topics for the subsequent week are decided at the previous discussion. This week’s topics are:
School curricula/library content (K-12): Who gets the last word on what content children in school are exposed to? Should it be the educators, the parents, the school/library board, or others? What should be the deciding principle(s): 1st Amendment free speech, professional educational/library standards, local community standards, national standards, something else?
How should we address the recent changes in use of Chicago’s public streets and sidewalks? There seems to be an increase in people using bikes (Divvy and otherwise), e-scooters and skateboards in traffic lanes and on the sidewalks, plus an increase in home delivery trucks (Amazon/UPS/FEDEX) that block street lanes or are standing in restricted parking spaces or bike lanes while making deliveries. Do we need new rules for streets and sidewalks? If so, what should they be?
If you are interested in participating in our discussions but are not on our distribution list, send an email to joolikar@gmail.com and we will add you to the list.
